Deliveroo CEO Exits Following DoorDash Acquisition
Deliveroo founder and CEO Will Shu will step down after U.S. rival DoorDash completes its takeover of the British food-delivery company. The MOVE marks a significant shift for Deliveroo as it integrates into DoorDash's global operations, with the deal expected to close by early October 2025.
Shu, who co-founded Deliveroo in 2013, described his departure as a natural transition after 13 years of building the company into a major industry player. "It's been an incredible journey," he said, signaling readiness for new challenges. His exit concludes a tenure that established Deliveroo as a homegrown UK tech success, though the company has recently faced stiff competition, margin pressures, and slowing sector growth.
The acquisition underscores DoorDash's aggressive international expansion strategy through M&A. All non-executive directors of Deliveroo will also resign upon deal completion, clearing the way for new leadership under the American parent company.
